Training
Details
of
the
MVS
training
arrangements
only
for
Seamanship are given here.
Practical
boat
handling
exercises
may
vary
based
on
weather
conditions
and
tides,
so
the
decision
to
hold
these sessions is made weekly.
These
exercises
might
include
harbour
patrols,
practising
chart
work
for
navigation,
making
passages
both
during
the
day
and
at
night,
as
well
as
handling
man-overboard
or
abandon
ship
scenarios,
among
others.
Classroom
sessions
typically
occur
once
a
week
in
the evening and last approximately 2 hours.
Members
can
attend
classes
to
learn
the
skills
required
so
helping
them
towards
achieving
Royal
Yachting
Association
qualifications.
These
are
at
no
additional cost to members.
The RYA qualifications the MVS can help with are,
1. Competent Crew.
2. Essential Navigation & Seamanship.
3. Powerboat Level 2 (Theory & Practical).
4. First Aid.
5. VHF Short Range Certificate (Theory & Practical).
6. Day Skipper (Theory only).
7. Diesel Engine Course.
